Physio Rehab (Clinical Pilates)

Forefront Physio Geelong’s Physio Rehab (Clinical Pilates) incorporates a mix of Pilates-based equipment exercises with strength training, balance, flexibility and movement pattern retraining to reach your rehabilitation goals.

Each session is individually tailored to meet your needs and is based on a thorough initial assessment to identify target areas and discuss your rehab goals. There is an emphasis on the deep ‘core’ muscles including the abdominals, pelvic floor, spinal stabilisers and the diaphragm. By activating these muscle groups, Physio Rehab can help to reduce pain and make you feel physically stronger by improving your muscle strength and control, body awareness, breathing control and stability.

Some of the conditions that can be addressed with our Physio Rehab program include:

  • Lower Back Pain
  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Shoulder Pain and Dysfunction
  • Hip Pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Post Shoulder, Hip and Knee Replacement Rehabilitation
  • Posture and Postural Associated Discomfort
  • General Strength and Conditioning
  • Sport Specific Strength and Control
  • Pre and Post Natal Control and Strength
  • Women's Health Issues

Getting Started:

1. Book a 1 : 1 initial assessment with Jed Rodda, Steve Judson or Nick Nicolaou (physiotherapist and clinical pilates/physio rehab instructor) at our Geelong or Grovedale clinic. If you are booking online then please add 'pilates' or 'physio rehab' to the extra info section. Alternatively, call our reception to make a booking on (03) 4227 2990.

At your first session you will undergo an assessment with your physio to identify your goals and create an individualised exercise program. Wear active attire or clothes that allow you to move easily to this session as this will allow your physio to assess your range of movement, strength and movement patterns. Your physio will teach you the initial principles of trunk and pelvic control and stability that will underpin your Physio Rehab program. You will also be introduced to the Pilates based equipment (reformer, wunda chair, trapeze) and other gym equipment in the Pilates Studio.

2. 1 : 1 Physio Rehab (Clinical Pilates) Sessions

Following your initial assessment, you will be taken through your individualised program in the Pilates Studio with your physiotherapist. They will teach you how to perform the exercises to get the most benefit from them. For most people, we recommend 3 x 1 : 1 sessions to really grasp the concepts and technique points of your exercises before moving to Small Group Physio Rehab. However, you may also wish to continue 1:1 sessions ongoing which is also available.

3. Small group Physio Rehab (Clinical Pilates) Sessions

Once you and your physiotherapist are confident with your technique and comprehension of your program you may choose to join a small group (up to 5) for 45 minute sessions. Each person in these groups are performing their own individualised program but you have a Physiotherapist in the Pilates Studio offering technique cues and reminders to ensure you get the most benefit from your sessions.

4. Reassessment

Throughout your program you will be informally reassessed to ensure that you are getting the most out of your exercises. Every 4-6 weeks your program may be updated depending on the frequency you attend sessions to allow for progression with your increased strength, control and flexibility. We like to reassess formally every 3 months to compare your progress to the results obtained during your initial assessment and update any goals you may have.

As the Physio Rehab program is Physiotherapist led, you are able to claim private health fund rebates on all sessions (code 560).
